Understanding adverbials and conjunctions. Adverbial conjunctions/ conjunctive adverbs/ connecting adverbs are words that function both as adverbs (adverbs) and conjunctions (connections). As a conjunction, this word functions to logically connect two independent clauses into a compound sentence, while as an adverb, it functions to explain the second clause.
Adverbial conjunctions can occupy the position of the beginning, middle, or end of a sentence and have, among other things, the relationship of addition, contrast, result, and time.
